Red Panda Network on Facebook

For those on Facebook, be sure to friend Redland Pandabear, created by a father per his three-year-old daughter's wishes to help out the Red Panda after visiting some at the zoo. After hearing that there weren't many left in the wild, she said "we need to tell people." In two days, they added 150 friends showing the effectiveness of their goal to educate others. Already a Red Panda Ranger at three, let's help support her while helping Red Pandas!

Dear Red Panda Network Supporters:
The RPN board of directors would like to thank everyone that attended or helped support the viewing of the Kung Fu Panda Screening on June 20st and 21nd at the Aquarius Theater in Palo Alto. We have raised over $7,000 and are still collecting from the generous red panda fans. The dedication to conservation could not happen without all of you, we sincerely appreciate all the donations, merchandising purchases, time and energy in helping save Red Panda. Let’s keep the momentum going and ride the wave of Kung Fu Panda by getting the word out there to anyone who might become a Red Panda supporter. It's not too late to donate or encourage donations.

Sincerely,
Nicki Boyd

With the generous support of DreamWorks and Mozilla Corporation, Red Panda Network will be holding a benefit screening of DreamWorks' “Kung Fu Panda” on June 21, 2008 with screenings at 12 pm and 2 pm at the Aquarius theatre in downtown Palo Alto, California.

Through this event Red Panda Network hopes to increase awareness about its work and raise the funds necessary to create the Red Panda Protected Forest, the world's first protected area dedicated to the red panda, that houses 25% of Nepal's red panda population.

Red Panda Diaries

Meredith's bio: I first came across a red panda while visiting the Philadelphia Zoo and immediately fell in love with its cute little face and bushy tail. Ever since then I have dragged my husband to many zoos to see them and accumulated quite an assortment of stuffed animals and collectibles. I would like more people to learn about red pandas and how to help them and other endangered animals. My other interests are photography and crafts, especially scrapbooking and needlecrafts.

We've Moved and Changed Our Name

To all of our donors,

Thank you for supporting us over the past three years. You have enabled us to grow from one organization to two and to support our full-time staff in Nepal and begin the implementation of our vision to create a secure future for red panda. Our vision is to have an affiliate office in all 5 range countries where red panda are found, Nepal, India, Bhutan, China and Burma. Since we plan to create this Network of offices and advocates working for red panda, we decided that we should change our name to Red Panda Network.

We officially began this name change March 1, 2008. We hope to complete the whole name changing process on March 19, 2008. Nothing has changed about who we are or what our mission is…Just our name and logo.

Thanks,
Your friends at Red Panda Network

Name the New Panda Contest

The Red Panda Project 2007 Ecotrip took place November 3 - 17. We toured the national forests of Ilam district in Eastern Nepal. After an anxious week of searching for red panda and camping in its habitat, we were able to observe and identify three previously unseen red panda in Surkhe forest. We plan to add the new panda pictured here to our Adopt-A-Panda program, but first she needs a name!

Vote for your choice below by replying to this email. On March 30, we'll christen her with your favorite name.

Bihana - "Morning"
Chaitra - "March"
Abhiram - "Sublime"
Niyati - "Fate; Fortune; Destiny"
Kismis - "Raisins"

Eats shoots and leaves: the elusive red pandas a whole town is seeking

They have put the "bamboo" into "bamboozle": Kirkcudbright is a small place, but still no-one can quite agree where mother and daughter Pichu and Isla have ended up.

The waggish local policeman is of the opinion they are on the golf course, perhaps fine-tuning their short game. The clubhouse manager, on the other hand, has briefed his members to be on the lookout, but is adamant the pair are sat lazily atop a tree, watching on nonchalantly at the operation to rescue them. Mushu, Isla's father, does not care how far they have gone, only that they find their way back. Read More

Hunt for two pandas missing from park

A hunt has been launched in south-west Scotland for two red pandas reported missing from a wildlife park. A tree toppled on to the animals' enclosure at Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park, near Kirkcudbright, allowing the mother, Pichu, and her eight-month old cub, Isla, to wander free. Police have asked the public to keep a look-out for the raccoon-like creatures, thought to surviving in the area.
