Stoves for Stewards

We're working to provide our entire national Forest Guardian team — over 100 local people — with improved cooking stoves to protect their health and red panda habitat!

According to WHO, more than 4 million people die prematurely every year from illnesses attributable to indoor air pollution arising from traditional cooking stoves.

Unfortunately, traditional stoves are the prevalent cooking and heating method among communities in Nepal's red panda range. These stoves also require a lot of fuelwood — up to 33 kg a day — causing deforestation and loss of habitat.

In 2018, we started distributing improved cooking stoves to our national Forest Guardian team and now our goal is to provide the remaining 85 members with stoves by the end of 2021. You can help us make a difference for the health of Forest Guardians and their families while protecting red panda habitat!
