Stoves for Stewards
We're working to provide the people who live among the pandas — including our entire national Forest Guardian team — with improved cooking stoves to protect their health and red panda habitat!
According to WHO, more than 4 million people die prematurely every year from illnesses attributable to indoor air pollution arising from traditional cooking stoves.
Unfortunately, traditional stoves are the prevalent cooking and heating method among communities in Nepal's red panda range. These stoves also require a lot of fuelwood — up to 33 kg a day — causing deforestation and loss of habitat.
To date, we’ve distributed 135 improved cooking stoves to Forest Guardians (FGs), herders, homestay owners and other local people. Our goal now is to provide 85 of our FGS, as well as 110 homestay owners and other community members, with new stoves. You can help us make a difference for the health of Forest Guardians and their families while protecting red panda habitat!
