Stoves for Stewards

We're working to provide the people who live among the pandas — including our entire national Forest Guardian team — with improved cooking stoves to protect their health and red panda habitat!

According to WHO, more than 4 million people die prematurely every year from illnesses attributable to indoor air pollution arising from traditional cooking stoves.

Unfortunately, traditional stoves are the prevalent cooking and heating method among communities in Nepal's red panda range. These stoves also require a lot of fuelwood — up to 33 kg a day — causing deforestation and loss of habitat.

As Of Today

We’ve distributed 355 improved cooking stoves to Forest Guardians (FGs), herders, homestay owners and other local people since 2017! One hundred and seventy-five households have received stoves in 2021 and we are in the process of distributing 75 more in Jajarkot, Kalikot, and Rukum districts. You can help us make a difference for the health of families in Nepal while protecting red panda habitat!

Help us save the red panda, today!
